Exercise Science B S
Northwest University admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally afforded or made available to students at the university. My years spent in the Exercise Science department at HSU laid the foundation for my career as a physical therapist. Not only was I equipped academically, but also developed professionally and grew spiritually with the encouragement and guidance of professors who invested in my education and cared about my success and growth beyond just the classroom. Learning in the classroom is one of the core ways that you can grow as a person. That is why each student has the opportunity to connect with a faculty or staff member to talk about class, life, and Jesus. Because learning is more than just knowledge, it is experiencing life-changing relationships.
In Athletic Training degree programs combine requirements from the Exercise Science major and Athletic Training major for the completion of two degrees in five years. Athletic trainers are board certified allied health care professionals who specialize in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. Students who want to become athletic trainers must earn a degree from an accredited athletic training curriculum and pass a comprehensive National Exam administered by the Board of Certification. Years one and two of the Athletic Training Program comprise the Candidacy Phase, and then students apply to be retained in the Professional Phase of the degree. By the end of the fifth year of study, students will have earned a B.S. In Athletic Training, and be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification exam.
SCC’s Personal Training program is nationally recognized by the National Strength & Conditioning Association for the quality of our education. Most of our courses use low-cost textbooks or no cost material provided by your instructors. SCC requires that all individuals wear facial coverings while indoors at any of our facilities and practice social distancing when on campus. SCC strongly encourages employees and students to become fully vaccinated. See more of the opportunities and experiences that will shape your future at Simpson. You will begin performing clinical rotations during your sophomore year, which will lead to a 12-credit internship in your senior year.
Freshman applicants with a 2.5 or higher high school GPA and transfer students with a 2.0 or higher cumulative college GPA are eligible for general admission to UC and will gain direct entry into this program. While double-majoring in psychology and exercise physiology, Patrice Faith Olivar has gained both research and practical experience. Senior students complete a culminating capstone experience involving faculty-supervised clinical, research, or community-based experiences that integrate discipline-specific knowledge with clinical skills developed over the course of the program.
The program’s laboratory-based coursework introduces students to state-of-the-art technologies, including metabolic cart and fitness testing, body composition technology, and cardiorespiratory outcomes assessment tools. Our program focuses on a foundation of anatomy, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. The 30 to 34 credit program offers concentrations in Human Performance or Sports Psychology, while taught by award-winning faculty and with a curriculum based on the latest research and best practices in exercise science. Fontbonne faculty provide students with numerous opportunities to participate in active and exciting research programs that investigate cutting-edge science, address social justice issues, teach experiential learning, and so much more.
The allied health concentration is geared toward those seeking advanced degrees in such areas as physical therapy, physician assistant and chiropractic medicine. The pre-athletic training concentration will prepare students for the MSAT program. The sport performance track features a mastery of skills in exercise programming. Required internships offer additional hands-on experience in the field. Graduates of this program are prepared for roles in health and fitness facilities, clinical rehabilitation programs, strength and conditioning, clinical lab coordinators, and more.
