Exercise Science Program At Lakeland University
Students entering an exercise science program study the science behind the appropriate selection of foods, fluids, and supplements and the timing of their intake. You will learn how to best utilize exercise to improve health and human performance for different populations across the lifespan. As a graduate of Castleton’s Exercise & Sports Science program, you’ll be prepared for careers in strength and conditioning, physical or occupational therapy, cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation, nutrition, chiropractic medicine, and more. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 11% career growth for exercise physiologists from 2019 through 2029. Whether you’re passionate about athletics, fitness training, or sports ministry, Houghton’s major in exercise science allows you to combine your passion with valuable training in physical therapy and exercise physiology. This course is designed to provide you with the information needed to conduct research in the field of exercise science.
The Exercise Science minor is for students who believe this minor can enhance their major program and/or future career opportunities. Current students minoring in Exercise Science are majoring in Business Administration, Honors, Biology, and Psychology. All biology majors produce individualized research projects that are relevant to their specific interests and fields. The projects fill current science gaps to assistant working professionals, allowing students to utilize theoretical principles learned in courses and produce tangible in-depth research. You will set yourself apart with national certifications that will open up career options and help you stand out to graduate school programs.
Graduates are qualified to pursue additional academic degrees at the master’s level. Extremely unique, hands-on, real world learning; graduate with up to 2 years of professional work experience. Employment is projected to grow 13% through 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. Athletic training, Chiropractic Medicine, Medicine, Physician’s Assistant, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy are some of the options. The Arnold School joins the UofSC faculty senate in condemning racism and injustice in all its forms and actions.
Students within this program will gain hands on experience in the Human Performance Lab. Multiple graduate school articulations to support your future success in this highly competitive profession. Program faculty have diverse backgrounds, hold the highest level of credentials in their areas of expertise, and are all currently active in the field. The program is also recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Education Recognition Program (2005-present).
Upon graduating, you can pursue entry-level careers in teaching, fitness, sport and wellness in addition to professional certifications and graduate degrees in physical therapy, exercise physiology and cardiac rehabilitation.
